Can double chin be minimized with weight loss or would will I need surgery to target this? 200lbs, 6'1 (photos)

it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. You will probably have some improvement after weight loss. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations.

A full set of facial and neck photographs in neutral position are required to make a determination about how best to proceed. It's also best to have your BMI less than 32 before undergoing any fat reduction surgery. From the limited photographs, it appears that you have fat deposits located above and below the platysma muscle in the neck. liposuction can only remove fat deposits above the platysma muscle, while a surgical neck lift with a platysma plasty is required to remove the fat deposits below the muscle.

Weight loss can definitely improve the amount of fat in the neck. In a younger patient, this weight loss can lead to some skin retraction and less extra remaining skin. With this being said, all patients have extra skin in the neck to allow for freedom of movement. This means that any patient, even a young child who is very thin, can have the look of a double chin when putting her chin to the chest. And in person examination as well as a discussion with a board certified or board eligible plastic surgeon would be required to help set expectations about what a surgical procedure or weight loss could do.

To make an assessment we need quality pictures. To get an idea of how to take those pictures look at how plastic surgeons take facial before and after pictures. and basically mug shots showing the entire head from the front and the side looking straightforward without emotional expression. try having someone else take the pictures from about 6 feet away or use the timer on your camera.The great majority of individuals who complain of having a double chin or lack of jaw line definition Have Esther underlying ideology facial skeleton imbalance with a Mandible that is small or lacking in projection compared to their maxilla.

Several different tissue layers can contribute to how the area looks but bone structure especially the relationship between the mandible and the maxilla are most important. other tissue variables that can contribute include skin, subcutaneous fat, the platysma muscle, salivary glands, subplatysmal fat etc.
For a quality assessment I suggest having a few in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons.
