Can I take myself to my chin liposuction appointment?

I have chin liposuction procedure coming up and I have no one to take me to my appointment. The drive is about 2.5 hours one way. Can I just drive myself? Since it’s only the chin area?

Driving yourself after chin liposuction is generally not recommended, even though the procedure is localized and minimally invasive. The main concern is that you'll likely receive local anesthesia or sedation, which can affect your alertness, coordination, and reaction time for several hours after the procedure. Even if you only have a small area treated, any residual numbness, swelling, or discomfort could make driving unsafe.

It’s safest to arrange for someone to accompany you, or consider a rideshare or taxi for the day of your procedure. This ensures your safety and allows you to rest and recover immediately afterward.

Even if your surgery is performed under local anesthetic, if you are driving alone, you may have a difficult time turning your head quickly, and this is necessary to ensure safe driving. Thank you for your question. Sincerely, Dr Joseph

Thank you for your question. The answer depends on what type of anesthesia is used for your procedure. If your intervention only involves local anesthetic, which is definitely a possibility for chin liposuction, it is safe to drive yourself to your appointment, as long as you have a good period of time to recover before you leave to drive yourself back.

If your procedure involves even mild sedation, it would not be safe to drive yourself, as the aftercare period requires a longer interval to regain full control of your mental awareness and function.

Most surgery centers will not care how you get to the facility.
They will, however, insist that you have a designated writer that’s able to pick you up on time.
I suggest you discuss this with your provider to make sure there are no miscommunications on the day of surgery.
Patients who do not plan accordingly can create Disruptions and significant delays.
Usually, the surgery center or doctors office will call you with instructions a day or two before.
Patient should not rely on car share riding services after surgery like Uber.
