BMI does not play a huge role in chin liposuction procedural decision-making, other than deciding the type of anesthesia. If a patient is very overweight, they may not be healthy enough for elective cosmetic surgical procedures like neck liposuction under anesthesia. In my practice, I commonly perform neck liposuction with a combination of oral sedation and local anesthesia, with patients remaining very comfortable throughout. More important than general BMI is the patient's neck anatomy. If there is a tremendous amount of neck adipose (fatty) tissue, then there may be sagging skin after neck liposuction. If the patient is older, there may not be enough skin elasticity to get a good cosmetic result. If there are platysmal muscle bands, they may need to be addressed with a platysmaplasty or neck lift. There are many factors that play a role. Be sure to see an expert who specializes in facial aesthetic procedures to review all of the options in detail.Best,
BMI should not be a significant factor in submental liposuction with local anesthesia. Skin quality and the degree of fatty tissue to be suctioned are the main considerations.I would suggest an in person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon well-versed in all aspects of facial rejuvenation in your area to learn about your options. Price would depend on geographical location.Best wishes, Andrew Lyos MD, FACS

Yes, BMI is a big factor in the undergoing elective cosmetic surgery, especially in the neck. In our practice, all patients must have a BMI of less than 34 before undergoing any elective cosmetic surgery under general anesthesia. It's also important to remember when you have a high BMI, there will be fatty deposits above and below does the muscle in the neck. Liposuction can only accomplish removal of the fatty deposits above the Platysma muscle, while a surgical neck lift is required to remove the deposits below the platysma muscle. Liposuction is only designed to remove diet resistant fat, so it's best to be at your ideal body weight.
I would follow your plastic surgeon's advice. Ace and compression garments serve the same purpose. Each plastic surgeon has his own protocol for his/her technique. If concerned, discuss directly with your plastic surgeon and ask him/her if they approve of the compression garment you ordered.
Each surgeon will have their own preferences for care after surgery. I personally prefer to have my patients use a compression garment after liposuction of the neck (under the chin). I do not think that tape on the skin would provide any compression though.
It will take a few months to have a better idea of the results from the liposuction under your chin. There would still be some expected swelling present 5 days after the procedure, and this can cause you to appear worse than before the surgery.
