Chin Implant sitting too low? (Photo)

I see your concern on your profile photos, but your jawline is improved. Your chin may be too swollen only one month post-op to consider another surgery, unless your implant is mobile. And even if it's mobile, it may be best to wait another 3-6 months before considering further surgical intervention. When your swelling is resolved, and if your implant still appears below your mentum, your surgeon will need to determine the cause of misplacement. In our experience, it may be best to remove the implant completely, and determine that the implant pocket is proper. If it was placed too superficial, that could cause droopiness, and correction may entail recreating a new pocket directly on your bone, and then suture fixating the implant.Hope this helps you.Dr. Joseph

Your implant is defintely sitting too low and I would take up your surgeon's recommendation and offer. It will give you better anterior projection. Good Luck.

Thank you for the pics and your story. It does seem that you are not getting as much projection out of the implant as would be expected -- especially for a size large. Perhaps a different implant shape is needed. Also, the implant may not be at the lower border of the mandible; rather, it may be sitting below. This requires a relatively simple revision procedure.

It does look a little low.  I would agree with your surgeon that revision is indicated.  It should not be very complicated.  Generally the revision involves repositioning and fixation with a tiny titanium screw which will help prevent it from slipping again.

If you would like to have projection and lengthen the chin at the same time, sliding genioplasty is the best option.  It creates a natural look. But first discuss the issue with your surgeon first.
