Chin implant incision inside the mouth not healing. (photo)

The photo is a bit dark to be able to see the chin implant in the photo, but if the implant is exposed through the incision in your mouth you should return to your surgeon to be evaluated.  In the normal healing process, the implant should not be exposed through the incision.

I am hopeful you have seen your surgeon by this point.  You have an exposed implant.  If is for this reason and others I prefer the submental approach (less likely to have exposure, less likely to get infection, less likely to affect mentalis muscle function, etc).  This also looks like a silicone implant.  You will likely have to have it removed.  Let the tissues heal.  Then have a sliding genioplasty (via a transoral approach) or a porous polyethylene implant placed via a submental approach. 

If your implant is indeed exposed in the wound it will not heal on its own.  You need to see your plastic surgeon ASAP so that they can either remove or attempt to salvage the implant. It is difficult to say which is best for you over the internet, hence why you need to see your plastic surgeon now. Best of luck. 

Since a chin implant is a "foreign body," it is unlikely that the open areas will close on their own. The best course of action would be to return to your surgeon. It may be possible to wash out the area and then reclose the open wound. This may or may not require a trip back to the operating room to do so, but it's best for you to talk to someone in person who can assess it in person.Good luck to you.Michael M. Kim, MD

It is difficult to see from your photo, but if the implant is really exposed through the incision, it will not heal by itself...you need to see your plastic surgeon about this!

If the implant is exposed it will need to be removed, time given for the incision to heal and then the implant placed back. Sorry for your bad luckDr Corbin
