How long should numbness last after Kybella? (Photo)

Hi everyone. First I want to thank the doctors who take their precious time to appease our anxiety on this forum ! :) I had my first Kybella injection 10 days ago. I still have numnbess under my chin, when I touch it, I feel nothing as when I come back from the dentist. I must say that I feel a little bit anxious about that. How long should it last ? Thank you for your question on Kybella, Kybella is a wonderful procedure to "melt" the fat under the chin.  You are correct that the most common side effects are bruising, swelling, redness, and firmness of the area.  It is also very common to have some superficial numbness of the area that was injected.  This numb sensation is typically resolved within 4-6 weeks, and is not considered a complication.  The swelling associated with Kybella is most intense for the first 1-5 days.  In addition to this swelling, the area may also feel a bit "jiggly", due to the liquification of the fat in the area.  You may ice the area, take ibuprofen, and elevate the head during sleep to help the swelling to dissipate faster.  Immediately after the injections the area will be swollen, red, possibly bruised (typically minimal), slightly numb on the surface, and have a hot/cramping sensation a bit deeper.  It is best not to vigorously exercise for a couple of days after injection.  As for normal daily activities, you should not have much trouble other than the noticeable swelling of the area.  Makeup can be applied the same day to cover redness or bruising.  It typically takes more than one treatment for most people.  And it can take 8-10 weeks to see the results after each treatment.To be sure, see two or more experienced, licensed and board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment.I hope this helps.

My wife had 3 1/2 vials of Kybella and according to her feedback the numbness lasted a good 3 to 4 weeks. That said, it faded pretty quickly from very numb in week 1 to slightly numb by week 4. It didn't bother her at all and she only experienced the numb sensation when touching the area. I hope this direct feedback is helpful to you.

Thank you for your question. It’s normal to experience some numbness after Kybella injections. While the healing time varies from patient to patient, I recommend going back to your provider for a follow up. Always remember to seek treatment from a board-certified dermatologist.

What you are experiencing, post Kybella numbness, is totally normal. It will probably start to dissipate at about the two week mark once the swelling starts to subside but it can still be present at 6 weeks post treatment. It really just depends on the patient and how fast your body heals.

Hi Belkirat,
Most patients report some degree of altered sensation to the area after injection with Kybella. This is very common and expected, since there is a significant amount of edema to the tissues. We find that the majority of swelling and bruising improves by around 2 weeks post procedure. Subsequently many patients report improvement in the altered sensation around the same time. I would recommend follow up with the provider who performed the Kybella treatments to ensure you are healing as expected.

Almost everyone has numbness after Kybella injection, and it lasts a variable amount of time. I usually warn my patients that the numbness will wear off very slowly, and they will probably have some still when I see them back at 6 weeks. I does go away eventually. Hang in there-- it is normal!

Kybella can cause numbness to the skin in the area injected.  Some clients have described the feeling as being both numb and sore.  The sensation or lack thereof tends to last 4 to 6 weeks.  As the swelling resolves so too should the numbness.  I hope this helps, Dr. Z.

I would like to reassure you . Numbness  and swelling are both expected. We see this  a great sign that the product is working. The numbness can last up to 4 weeks.

Temporary numbness is not uncommon in the first week or so after Kybella. However if you are having any asymmetry or changes in the use of the muscles in your lower face, then i would recommend that you speak to your provider immediately. The "dull" feeling that can occur with the swelling after a Kybella treatment can last up to several weeks so this may all be very temporary, but you should speak with your provider with any concerns.
