TheBellesoma Method was developed by Gary Horndeski, M.D. in Sugar Land,Texas. Currently there are four otherdoctors trained in the technique: Shim Ching, M.D. (Honolulu, HI), Kaye Riolo,M.D. (Fresno, CA), Daniel Brown, M.D. (La Jolla, CA) and Mahmood Kara, M.D.(Toronto, ON). Currently there are nodoctors in Chicago trained in the technique. This technique has evolved out of necessity. Women refuse to have vertical scars on theirbreasts, they do not want implants and they want to maintain nipple sensitivityand the ability to breast feed. Womenwant to keep their breasts proportionate to their body and do not want excessivereduction to eliminate breast associated pain. TheBellesoma Method has continuously evolved over the last seventeen years to meetwomen’s desires. Each woman is uniqueand The Bellesoma Method uses computer analysis of breast images. These are combined with her desires todetermine the optimal surgical solution. This technology is proprietary and currently limited to the five doctorsmentioned. I consider the anchor lift obsoleteand have not used it in over twenty years and would not recommend it toanyone. The Bellesoma Method waspresented at the Aesthetic Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 2, 2016. I am in the process of submitting a paper forpublication. Best Wishes,Gary Horndeski, M.D.
The scar pattern from breast lifting depends to a large degree on reducing the skin envelope to match the shape of the lifted breast. Often the vertical limb helps to add projection. Both the vertical pattern and the anchor pattern have this. There are a range of choices, not just anchor pattern vs "bellesoma."
There are different ways to perform breast lifts and plastic surgeons should be versed in more than one technique as no operation works well on all women. If the bellasoma technique is so great why are only 5 plastic surgeons performing breasts lifts using this technique? Obviously a doctor has patented this technique and is charging other doctors money to learn how to perform the operation. This runs counter to the universally accepted unrestricted dissemination of knowledge that has led to the medical advances in the past 150 years. If the technique is that great teach other doctors how to perform it without charging a fee.Judging by the one patient's before and after photos in another doctor's answer to your question, the bellasoma technique produces a breast shape not seen in nature. The scar from a vertical breast lift is barely visible in most women who don't have a tendency to produce increased pigment in their scars. The vertical technique produces a rounded, narrower, more projecting breast and uses the patient's saggy lower pole tissue to auto augment the upper pole. There are published papers showing persistence of the lift for at least 10 years. Where are the long term follow ups for the bellasoma technique?
We actually most often use the vertical breast lift unless skin excess is an extreme issue. I have not seen a bellesoma lift in professional peer reviewed plastic surgery literature, might be a red flag.
