Liposuction with high platelets and high red blood cells?

Question

I am interested in getting lipo to my abdomen with fat transfer to my breast. I have higher than normal platelets for which I've been taking a baby aspirin daily. My last blood test revealed high red blood cells as well. Can I get lipo?

Liposuction with high platelets and RBCs is fine but you should not be taking aspirin. I suggest speaking to your physician they should have explained this to you and given you a list of medications to avoid.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Thank you for your question.  In general, having high platelets and red blood cells shouldn't prevent you from having liposuction.  I recommend consulting with several plastic surgeons in your area.  They may want to then speak with your hematologist/PCP about the reasons for the medications, and a plan for being off them (if possible) around the time of surgery.Best,Dr. Dan KrochmalMAE Plastic SurgeryNorthbrook, IL

Those two things will not necessarily keep you from having liposuction. However, I would suggest seeing your primary care physician first and finding out why those are high and do they pose any other problems for you. Before you have surgery, it would be good to find out why your blood cell levels are high. Since is is not a good idea to do liposuction while on aspirin, this needs to be sorted out first. It also depends on how high the numbers are. Your plastic surgeon may want to discuss this with a hematologist.
