How soon after having your drains removed can you shower?

I usually recommend to my patients to wait 48 hours after a drain is removed to shower.  In my opinion, it takes about that long to have the "hole" seal up enough to be watertight.  Hope this helps and good luck! 

Generally we have our patients shower 24 hours after having drains removed.  You should check with your Plastic Surgeon regarding his/her recommendations specifically related to your particular procedure.  Good luck.

Hello and thank you for your question. It is best to contact your surgeon to see what their recs are because they may have different suggestions based on their personal experience. I tell my patients they can shower the day after drain removal as long as the hole looks like its closing up.

You should have lymphatic massage and hyperbaric oxygen for at least 48 hours before getting on a plane after drains are removed. I suggest seeing your physician and following a very detailed aftercare.  Best, Dr. Emer.

This is something you should ask your surgeon who knows you best. For my patients, I tell them to wait 24 to 48 hours until the small incision closes and becomes waterproof to avoid infection. Good luck.

For my patients you can shower the next day drains or no drains.Each doc is different and I find the sooner a patient can shower the better they feel.
