I would like a general opinion on Cool Sculpting vs Lipo for my upper arms. I am generally chubby (size 10), but my arms are disproportionately fat. I would prefer to avoid lipo and was wondering if Cool Sculpting would still give good results. Also, the hanging circumference of my left arm is one inch bigger than my right arm.
Answer: Arm Contouring with Coolsculpting versus VASER, ThermiRF, Fat grafting, Body jet For circumferential areas like the arms, I recommend a hi definition procedure like VASER HI DEF to get the best results. I use VASER with ThermiRF and fat grafting to get the most fat removal, skin tightening, contouring and definition. This combination will give your arms the most toned result. Coolsculpting can remove stubborn areas of fat, but lacks the ability to create contours and definition. I recommend getting a consultation with a hi definition physique expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: CoolSculpting vs Liposuction for upper arms Thank you for the question. They are two different modalities. CoolSculpting can get a 25% reduction. We have found it to be very effective for the love handles, abdomen, arms, thighs, neck, and other areas. We have found that treating the area twice usually improves the fat cell kill significantly. Other physicians I have spoken to have found similar findings. Liposuction is a surgical modality that is usually more dramatic, with a greater reduction. Again, the CoolSculpting is non invasive, no surgery, no downtime. As always, the modality should be appropriate to the individual patient. Some patients with loose skin may need a brachioplasty. Best to see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, who can evaluate for all modalities.

Answer: CoolSculpting for the Upper Arms Thank you very much for your question and photographs. From your pictures, it does appear that you could benefit from CoolSculpting. As the noninvasive treatment will reduce the isolated fat cells by 25-30%, you could see a significant result without undergoing liposuction. However, it is important to remember that CoolSculpting and liposuction do not improve stretched, lax tissue. This means that sagging skin may still remain on your upper arms. To get a tight, smooth upper arm, a brachioplasty may be necessary, which could eliminate the excess skin, as well. I recommend you schedule an in-person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon, experienced in CoolSculpting. At this time, he/she will examine your upper arms and discuss your aesthetic goals. Together, you can decide if CoolSculpting is the best technique for your needs.

Answer: Coolsculpting vs liposuction for arms Thanks for you pictures and question. It would be necessary to see you in person to give a more solid recommendation, but it appears that you would likely be a candidate to see some improvement with either approach. You will see quicker and (probably) more definitive results with liposuction. CS will also give results, but you should plan on at least 2 sessions per side about 60-90 days apart. Given this, the results after CS may take up to 6 months to see.

Answer: Cool sculpting vs liposuction of the arms From the photo it is hard to judge skin elasticity. If it is very poor, you would do poorly with either liposuction or coolsculpting as the skin will sag. Although it is a much larger procedure, brachioplasty would be the answer for a "tight" result. Assuming the skin has good elasticity liposuction (done by an experienced plastic surgeon) would definitely give a more dramatic result than coolsculpting. In all cases, coolsculpting is a less aggressive procedure than liposuction, the benefit being no surgery and essentially no downtime.
