Conjunctival mullerectomy recovery time?

Question

How long does it take on average before I can read, work, drive etc after a mullerectomy? The opthamologist said it would be external not internal. I do a desk job that is 100% on a computer. I want to let my employer know what to expect.

A mullerectomy is done internally so there is no external incision.  So you may not have understood the surgeon.  It is possible that they will fix the ptosis with an internal incision and then excise skin from an external incision.  It takes a week or two for recovery.

You need to be clear with your potential surgeon.  Your surgeon should be more than just an ophthalmologist.  They should be fellowship trained in oculoplastic surgery.  There are two basic ways of doing ptosis surgery: internal-the muellerectomy or external-the anterior levator aponeurosis resection ptosis repair.  If your surgeon is doing your ptosis repair externally, you are not getting a muellerectomy. Generally people take about 10 to 14 days off from work with either surgeries.  Overall, the muellectomy recovers faster than an anterior levator aponeurosis ptosis repair.
