I'm going to have jaw botox this coming Monday - I did choose a certified medical doctor. As you can see from the picture attached, I have quite wide jawline. It's not my bone, though, as I clearly feel (and see!) two large masseters on both sides of my bottom face. Judging from the picture - how many units of botox would you recommend for myself? Also, any tips on injection sites/techniques? It looks like the problem is not at the back sides of my jawline but just in the in the middle? Thank you!

Answer: Botox for Masseter Hi and thanks for your question. Botox injection for masseter reduction will help slim the jawline, but it will take a series of treatments. In order to determine your dose of Botox, you would need an in person visit, but I would probably start at 20 - 30 units per side, depending on how firm the muscle felt. I would suggest distriuting the Botox throughout the muscle. Leaving part of the muscle untreated can result in unsightly bluges when you chew. Most people will start seeing a change after the first session and after the second one it will be really significant. After a few sessions there is a good chance that you can stop and not need further injection. Most people have enlarged masseters because they have a habit of clenching and grinding their teeth from stress. 3 or 4 Botox sessions spaced about 3 months apart can break that habit. The bonus is that any headaches, neck pain or jaw pain you experience from grinding or clenching will also disappear. Hope that helps.

Answer: Masseter injections thanks for your question, It looks like you've done your research and selected your expert. I would recommend not learning too much about technique as this tends to cause confusion. Identify what you want to have done, and select your professional then trust them (him or her). I love it when patients ask questions and are knowledgeable (it's actually my favorite) but trying to understand technique is beyond the scope of what's reasonable. Hope this helps and God Bless!Dr. Robb

Answer: Botox for Masseters Thank you for your question. The amount of Botox required for treating the masseter muscle varies from person to person. However, the typical dosage for initial treatment is between 20-30 units per side. An experienced injector will be able to determine appropriate injection site placement. Hope this helps!
