Opinions please: The tip of my nose becomes more bulbous as I age. I fear that I am going to have a truly round bulb before long- just like my sweet grandmother , God rest her soul. In your personal and professional opinion, should I consider having a tip rhinoplasty in the near future? I am 69. Thank you!

Answer: Should I consider having a tip rhinoplasty in the near future? I am 69 Hello,Thank you for your question. Changes in the shape of your nose generally related with your skin. There are many factors that effect your skin such as ageing, gravity, the condition of your skin, nutrition and so forth. Due to a loss of elasticity in tissues at your age I wouldn't recommend you undergoing a nose surgery. To find out more please click on the attached link. Hope it helps

Answer: You could consider a rhinoplasty. You're not too old for the surgery. More advice ... When the tip of the nose is wide, it's usually due to the two cartilages that form the tip of the nose. Those cartilages can be modified to change the size and shape of the tip. The woman in the short video that I posted with this answer had her wide tip cartilages modified in her rhinoplasty. Remember that rhinoplasty is an exquisitely difficult operation to get right, and you should only have surgery if you are able to make yourself very confident in your surgeon's skills. Changing the tip of the nose requires advanced techniques, requiring skill that most plastic surgeons don't possess with expertise. For most noses, it's much better to not have surgery than to have inexpertly-performed surgery. Read my essay on how to stay out of trouble while selecting a rhinoplasty surgeon. Your nose is also a perfect example of why computer imaging is mandatory in rhinoplasty. You need to know exactly what the surgeon is planning to accomplish -- what features he thinks he can change, and by how much he thinks he can change them. I always email morphs to my online rhinoplasty consultations. When you see the surgeon's goals in the morphs, you'll know whether he has an eye for an attractive nose, and whether he shares your opinion of what constitutes an attractive nose. You'll also know whether the changes he proposes are large enough to be meaningful to you, and whether he understands your wishes enough to address all of your priorities. How would you ever get that figured out without the morphs?

Answer: Bulbous tip in 69 year old Thanks for the question. Although age itself is not a definite contraindication to surgery, I am not sure a rhinoplasty will address your concerns. The skin of your nasal tip appears to be normal so the most likely cause for your tip shape is the underlying cartilage. I would recommend a full consultation with board certified plastic surgeon to evaluate your concerns and determine the best course of action. A tip rhinoplasty may not be adequate.

Answer: Should I to consider having a tip rhinoplasty at age 69? The amount of change going to expect from rhinoplasty would be very minimal at best, so it's probably best to just leave well enough alone.
