Am I allergic to ointment I’m using for internal stitches after rhinoplasty?

11 days post op rhino I’ve pretty much stop leaking any blood until I put bactrician zinc in my nose very gently then I’ll start bleeding and it’s always in the same spot from where my internal stitches are, also my nose starts to burn a lil from the ointment. Is it normal to bleed and burn a little from stitches only after the ointment has been applied? Am I allergic to it? My doctor said not to use it if it irrates me but I feel I should have some type of ointment on it to keep it moist in there.

Hello and thanks for your question.
In my clinical practice , I don’t recommend the any kind of ointment for internal stitches in rhinoplasty. Internal part of the nose is covered by the mucosal tissue and this tissue heals 2-4 days after the rhinoplasty. During the operation if the mucosal tissue is repaired properly, the patient doesn’t need any ointment. If this ointment causes irritation in your nose , quit the ointment and try to moisturize environment that you live in.

Blood staining from the nasal suture line is not uncommon 10 days after surgery. Experienced rhinoplasty surgeons develop post operative regiments that have been successful in their practice. I suggest you follow his suggested routine to stop the application of ointment, especially since it is triggering the bleeding.

Hi,
Best thing is to check with your PS but if you cant reach him I suggest use some other antiseptic ointment like Betadine, Fucidine, or Neosprine skin ointment depending upon what your chemist can give you over the counter.

On 10th day most wound have healed I dont recommend my patients to play much inside the nose.
