If I get masseter Botox and it ends up giving me jowls, is that something filler can fix? & would that mean if I stop grinding/ clenching my jaw and my muscle goes down naturally since it’s not being overworked anymore, will I have jowls permanently?

Thank you for your question. While a proper assessment of your face is necessary to make recommendations, your Botox results are only temporary and typically last for 3-4 months. Furthermore, jowl formation is uncommon after Botox injections in the masseter muscle. But if you’re concerned about jowls in the future, there are plenty of treatment options –most of which don’t even require surgery. Botox, fillers (or a combination of injectables), RF, and energy devices can soften and relax muscles, or tighten the skin to achieve a more contoured face shape with minimal downtime. Botox results last up to 3 to 4 months and can be softened with Venus Legacy and Thermage treatments. At-home microneedling can give Botox-like effects as an alternative. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

Botox to reduce the appearance of the masseter muscles should not result in jowling.  The results are temporary and will gradually wear off over 3 to 4 months.  Subsequent treatments will be needed to maintain results.
