I've been experiencing ongoing health issues ever since my secondary surgery. The first was a breast augmentation (periareola incision/saline implants/420 & 390 CCs) and the other was an implant exchange (Mentor Siltex/Anchor Lift/350 CCs). I had read a lot about many women similar to me who have struggled with unexplained symptoms which has led me to believe that I may have breast implant illness. I am looking to have my implants removed and a lift to tighten up the remaining breast tissue I have. Is there anything else I would need to address during this last & final surgery? What would be the most important questions to ask the Surgeon who will remove my current set of implants and complete another Anchor lift for the remaining breast tissue I have left over? Thank you!
Answer: BII Hello, thank you for your question. It sounds like you're navigating a complex situation with your health and previous surgeries, and it’s great that you’re seeking to understand your options as you consider your next steps. Breast implant illness (BII) is a term used by many to describe a variety of symptoms they believe are related to breast implants, and many women have reported experiencing improvements in their health after explantation. Please see the attached video to address your questions/concerns in detail. Having a clear understanding of your options and preparing thoughtful questions for your surgeon can greatly enhance your experience and help you feel more empowered in your decision-making process. It’s important to feel confident and informed about your choices as you move forward with your surgery.

Answer: Breasts Ask about the risks and healing time. Do remember that not all these women have been helped with removing their implants and capsules. Most of my patients who have chosen to remove implants for a variety of unexplained symptoms were not relieved of their symptoms once removed. Mentally, many were relieved. In the US, we are exposed to a great deal of toxins in our foods, water, cosmetics, and cleaning products, especially hair dyes, and tattoos daily. However, once removed, you do not have to deal with implants again.

Answer: Questions You will want to discuss your concerns and goals for your procedure with your surgeon. After an examination and review of your health history your surgeon will explain the procedure to you. You will want to ask about preparation, recovery, and what you can expect in terms of results. It's important to know that there is much we are still learning about BII and removal of implants and capsules does not guarantee resolution of symptoms, but it certainly may occur. I've included a video about implant removal and BII that I hope you find helpful.

Answer: Explant with Bellesoma Method I recommend explant and lift without the anchor incision. The technique I recommend is explantation and lift using The Bellesoma Method. The implants are removed, your breast tissue is reshaped creating upper pole fullness, elevated higher on the chest wall and more medial to increase your cleavage. Vertical scars are avoided, nipple sensation (in 95%) and the ability to breast feed are maintained if not injured during your previous surgery. Later, fat transfers can be performed if additional volume is desired. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: The most importan question to ask when considering and Breast implant removal? Hello @Nikki R, thank you for your question. I advise you to thoroughly prepare for your consultation. Inquire about the surgeon's credentials and experience, as well as the techniques they use. Understand what you can expect from the procedure in the short and long term. It's crucial to discuss the importance of a total capsulectomy in your procedure to prevent future inflammatory processes. Ask where the surgery will be conducted, how the procedure will be performed, and what preoperative tests will be necessary. Good preparation will help you make an informed decision and have a better understanding of your upcoming procedure. Best wishes!! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS.
