I'm interested in a bbl but I'm told I'm too skinny. I weighed in today at 132lbs at 5'3". My highest weight I've ever been was 140 but I still looked pretty much the same. I figured I'd just gain more weight but all of the doctors I've read here have advised against that. I definitely, definitely do not want butt implants. I think they're absolutely horrible and have complete disinterest in ever even contemplating them as an alternative. Are there any other options for me or am I just sol?

Answer: Brazilian Butt Lift candidate? Thank you for your question. A BBL procedure must be planned according to the individual needs of patients, harvesting fat from target areas of the torso, thighs or knees and transferring it to create smooth, attractive contours optimized for each person. The amount of fat transferred depends on the quantity available and the extent of buttock augmentation each patient desires. Sufficient body fat for a buttock augmentation is very patient-specific, depending on an individual’s body shape and proportions as well as their expectations. Buttock augmentation with fat grafting is one of our most popular procedures in Colombia, and from experience we can tell you that some patients do very well with 300 cc of fat per side while others can need 800 cc or more. If you put on weight before surgery, there is more to transfer. But I do not generally recommend this because we augment the buttock during surgery for optimal shape, and if you then lose the weight post operatively you will loose it disproportionately from your augmented buttock and the results could suffer. We recommend patients to keep their normal weight and body form prior to surgery, and then we are working from a stable situation to create the changes we are working for. That said, you definitely have to choose your surgeon correctly and make sure that he/she has the training and experience to meet your goals with absolute safety. Best is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with specialized expertise in this procedure.

Answer: Too skinny for a BBL I rarely if ever recommend weight gain prior to a BBL. Gaining weight is often counterproductive. If you gain weight that is fat, some of the fat will likely be associated with the buttocks. I think it is better to maintain a stable weight you can sustain after the BBL. I can usually find enough fat on any physique for the procedure, although I have seen a patient or two who are not candidates for the BBL. The outcome of the BBL will depend upon whether your expectation is for a drastic change and the ability of your surgeon to remove fat. My philosophy is to place as much fat as possible without causing fat necrosis or undue pressure. I always anticipate that only 50% will survive, but frequently more does.
