Would taking Phentermine pills for weight loss in the past disqualify me from having a BBL?

Question

A year ago I used Phentermine pills for weight loss. I didn't have any complications or discomfort.. My current weight is 200 pounds and my goal is 180 pounds. I've changed my diet to plant-based Foods and have been exercising but I still would like my butt to be a bit rounder. However, if there's any chance of complication I do not want to risk it.

Thank you for your question! Taking phentermine in general does not disqualify you from having surgery. For my patients having any procedure, I advise that they stop taking weight loss medications 2 weeks prior to and 3 weeks post surgery. I recommend discussing specific medication questions with your plastic surgeon. Best of luck!

Having taken phentermine pills in the past would not disqualify you from having a BBL.  Good that you are exercising and following a reasonable diet to reach your goal weight.

Active Phentermine use is associated with anesthesia complications, specifically hypotension. History of Phentermine use does not disqualify you from cosmetic surgery. Based on the half life of the drug, it is recommended that patients stop this medication at least 4 days prior to the surgery date. Dear rtempleton,
if you ahve reached your goal weight and don't use pills anymore, there should be no issues. But every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.

In my practice I just ask patients to stop phentermine 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery. It is best to ask your PS what they recommend.

Using Phentermine in the past is not a contraindication for a BBL. It is recommended you continue your active and healthy lifestyle before and after your procedure. If you are a good candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), the optimal outcomes are achieved with: 1) use of VASER liposuction to harvest the fat, 2) a closed looped system such as Puregraft to process the fat, and 3) strategic micro-packet transplant technique.
