Tummy tuck scar - cover?

Question

I know that the scar fades eventually after tummy tuck but is there anything that can be used in the meantime? Make up? Stick on tattoos? Henna? I am not talking about in bikinis - low scar or not, I mean naked. To cover it.

I advice my patients to start using Biocornium scar gel anywhere from 7 weeks post op on.  It really helps the scar look better.  Biocorneum is primarily sold at plastic surgeon's office.  Hope this helps!

Abdominoplasty scars can be quite complex, ranging from the simple hypertrophic scar to a multiplane inflamed keloid. Pigmentation, discoloration, chronic inflammation, scar visibility can all occur in the short term. We begin each treatment with combination therapy using Yellow broadband BBL, Vbeam, fractional erbium, intralesional IIT, and scar modulation. Start with a combination of Plato's Scar Serum massaged twice daily after one week of epithelialization followed by Luminase/Exfolase. Scar consultation and revision may be recommended.

Thank you for the question! Even though your tummy tuck scar will gradually fade over time, you may still get a tattoo if you so desire. It's perfectly safe. You just have to wait until the healing process is completed and your swelling is completely gone. That may take 6 to 12 months from the day of surgery. In other words, the answer to your question will vary from patient to patient. However, to err on the side of caution, I'd advise waiting at least one year.
Remember that an in-person exam with a board-certified plastic surgeon would be the best way to assess your needs and guarantee a reliable medical advice. Best of luck!

The things you suggested are good options.  Dermablend is a makeup that has more pigment per ounce than other products and has been used in Hollywood for decades to cover scars on actors and actresses.  I hope this has been helpful.

Disguising the appearance of a tummy tuck scar during the healing phase is fairly common. As you mentioned, temporary tattoos such as stick-on or henna are common. Additionally, products such as Dermablend, which is essentially a type of make-up is used to cover up scars and tattoos. Dermablend and other products is available at major retailers, such as Macy's.Obviously, silicone sheeting products can help both improve the appearance of an incision as well as cover it. The sheeting of course would be visible, but the incision would not.

I personally like silicone scar therapy and aggressive massage to help fade scars. As for superficial "cover-up", I often suggest Cover FX and Dermablend and Make-up Forever.

If you are unhappy with the appearance of the scar the best product to use is embrace.  If you want to cover it for periods of time then derma blend may be of use.  It is used to cover bruising.
