What can I expect from the second round in the way of side effects?

Question

I am about to go in for my second round to my lower abdomen and my flanks. I am 8 weeks from round 1. I have a cruise in 2 weeks and I am debating cancelling the session because the swelling from the first was so bad... what can I expect from the second?

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately the after effects of CoolSculpting can vary from patient to patient. Some do experience less swelling on the second treatment, but there is always a chance that you swell just as much. If you are concerned about it, it may be better to wait until after your trip. Especially since you wont notice any of the results in two weeks, it probably isn't worth the risk. Good luck and congratulations on your treatments!

Although normally CoolSculpting causes a little swelling, there are some patients who swell more. Although there is less fat to treat the second treatment and this may mean less reaction, the skin itself is cold for the same amount of time and you may swell just the same as the first, or even more. No one can predict. It seems the best advice is to enjoy your trip and reschedule the second CoolSculpting after your return.

I find that swelling after a CoolSculpting treatment is not an issue for most of my patients.  In most cases, if there is swelling, it normally only lasts for a few days and is fairly mild.  Since you felt your swelling was bad after your first session, there is no way to guarantee that you would not have the same swelling after your second session.  There is certainly no harm in waiting a longer period of time in between treatment sessions, so I would recommend just waiting until after you return from your cruise so you won't have to worry about any possible swelling while you are on your vacation.

Thank you for your question. The amount of swelling patient experiences after treatment of Coolsculpting varies and typically lasts only a few days. Since you felt that you had a lot of swelling after your first session, there is no way to guarantee that you will not have same amount swelling with a second treatment. Some people swell less after the second procedure but others may swell the same or mor.  To be safe, I would recommend waiting until you get back from your trip.

Swelling is normal after CoolSculpting and the time it takes to settle down varies. That is up to you if you want to get the treatment before your cruise. You won't be seeing those results from the treatment until months later so there isn't a rush. If you had swelling with the first treatment, I would expect you to swell again.
