A canthoplasty at the time of a lower blepharoplasty would not increase the width of your eye. It is done primarily to improve the lower eyelid position and may make the eye less rounded and more almond-shaped. Discuss your goals with your surgeon at the time of your consultation to determine if the canthoplasty is necessary and what your eye will look like post-operatively.
A canthoplasty is usually done because the lateral cantonal tendon has relaxed. This caused the eye to be more rounded and slightly less wide. When you tighten the lateral canthus, you automatically widen the eye and make it more almond shape. It is usually done in conjunction with a lower blepharoplasty to prevent the lid from pulling away from the globe because of the inherent laxity.
