Strip on nipple has lost colour and hardened, 6 weeks after breast lift - problem?

Question

6 weeks post op for breast lift. To date all has been well. Left nipple now has a vertical strip approx 3mm wide running down along the inside section that has lost colour (turned white) and hardened. The Suture line looks healthy. Is this normal or cause for concern?

White and pink uniform colour changes to the areola and nipple after breast surgery are not uncommon and can reflect the same weather dependent changes that happen to non-operated breasts- especially in the cold of Canberra! But a single white line of 3mm thickness may be an ischaemic band of skin (area of poor blood supply). I would recommend asking your surgeon.

It is unusual for the pink/red scars around the areola to have turned white already and it would be unusual to have had your nipples altered surgically during a mastopexy/lift. I am unclear as to what part of the nipple areola complex you are referring to and whether it is related to a scar or another process that is occurring.  If you have concerns always ask your PS. If you could post your photos I could give you a better opinion.

To have discoloration of the nipple or the areola 6 weeks after breast lift can be normal. Chances are the pigment will return. It can take months for this to happen. Be patient. I would definitely discuss it with your surgeon at your next appointment. Thank you.
