1 week post op with a weird dent above my incision. Too soon to tell? (Photo)

Question

Within the past few days I began bruising above my righty incision and now today (1 week out) I have and indent above my incision. Does this look like something that needs to be addressed right away? I have an appt Friday but this is kind of worrying me. Thank you!

It's too soon to tell at this point in your recovery as it's only been 1 week post-op.  Your breasts will change over the next several months as your implants settle so try to focus on healing and follow your surgeon's instructions and go from there.  From the photos, your bruising is not unusual. Good luck! ac

Thank you very much for your question and photos.It does look as if you are slightly bruised
following the surgery which is to be expected at this stage.

As you say, you have a slight depression above the scar but I
think at this stage it is slightly too early to tell if this will remain.

The dents can be caused by the internal stitching, swelling or
tape you put on your incision.

I think it would be worthwhile discussing the nature of the
contour irregularity with your surgeon and in most cases they will be able to
reassure you that it will settle with time.

It is difficult to say what is going on. It could be related to the steri-strips on your incision.  Best to ask your surgeon.

It is really difficult to tell from your photos what is going on. The best advice is to call your surgeon and discuss this with them. They will decide whether you need to be seen right away or if you can wait until your scheduled appointment.

Thank you for the question and photos.  At one week most of the non-urgent details of how a breast may look are temporary.  The indentation may be where your old breast fold used to be or perhaps it is just part of the tension in the tissues from the incision closure. It is difficult to tell from your photos what is exactly going on.  This does not appear to be an urgent situation.  Most contour changes like this usually resolve over time (weeks to months).  You are very early on in your postoperative course.  You should continue to follow-up with your surgeon as directed and discuss any concerns you have.

At just one week post breast augmentation, I would not worry excessively about this.  The dent may be where your previous inframammary fold was and with time the dent may well smooth out.  Let your surgeon know about your concern.  He/she will be able to address this.  Best wishes, Dr. Lepore.
