I’ve gone to two consultations for a rhinoplasty in which I was advised to get on the treatment to help thin out the skin for my rhinoplasty. (Isotretinoin) My question is if this treatment actually helps thin out the skin on the nose ? I had a non surgical nose job done a year ago with radiesse as well!! Any advice or replies will be greatly appreciated.
Answer: Rhinoplasty Hi @lizvcrbz! I recommend seeing a rhinoplasty specialist for in person examination. There are several options for you to address your bulbous tip that can be determined after examination. A rhinoplasty in my opinion is one of the most difficult procedures to perform. The skill, artistry, and technique of the surgeon will determine your outcome. In my practice, I utilize piezosurgery. Piezosurgery is a more gentle technique that allows for greater precision. Less bruising and swelling is common with Piezosurgery. In a typical rhinoplasty, a hammer and chisel technique is performed leading to more inadvertent fractures. I hope this was helpful! Best of luck, Dr. Nima!

Answer: Full Rhinoplasty Greetings Dear Thank you for your question. The Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty ıs the best. In traditional Rhinoplasty, surgical instruments known as rasps and osteotomies (hammer and chisel) are used to reshape the nasal bones by removing the hump and/or narrowing the nasal bone width. These tools are relatively imprecise and their use can lead to contour irregularities, etc. if not used in the proper manner. Recently, a technology that uses sound waves has been developed to contour nasal bones in a precise and far less traumatic way when compared to traditional techniques. Ultrasonic, or Piezo, Rhinoplasty is now the most advanced technology available for minimally traumatic nasal bone reshaping and hump removal during Rhinoplasty. There will be hardly any bruising and swelling which will make the recovery period a lot easier for the patient.

Answer: Absolutely Not The skin thickness of your nose is not the cause of its shape, and so isotretinoin will not be effective. Radiesse and/or your natural tip cartilages are the cause. During a rhinoplasty, any radiesse would be visualized and removed, and your natural tip cartilages would be modified by reshaping and reinforcing with cartilage grafts to achieve a natural result with definition.

Answer: Will I be able to get a rhinoplasty? Bulbous nose If the appearance of your nose concerns you, it can be addressed with a natural appearing rhinoplasty performed by an expert artistic plastic surgeon with extensive rhinoplasty experience. Patients with thicker skin can get a significant improvement in the appearance of the nose but need to be realistic about the result. The efficacy of Isotretinoin in thinning nose skin is unpredictable. Keep in mind, that following the advice from a surgeon on this or any other website who proposes to tell you what to do based on limited photos without examining you, physically feeling the tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history, and discussing the pros and cons of the proposed operative procedure with you and your parents may not be in your best interest. I would suggest you find a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) or facial plastic surgeon (otolaryngologist) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. Robert Singer, MD FACS La Jolla, California
