May 2019: Inserted 8 threads in my nose to make it looks higher. And now, I am planning to do Rhinoplasty on 1st November 2019. I've visited 3 surgeon: 2 of them said they can do the removal of threads in my nose and then proceed with rhinoplasty. But only 1 surgeon said I need to go for removal of threads first, and then wait for my nose to recover from scar tissues (for approximately 3 months) then only can proceed for rhinoplasty. I am now confuse, which one should I choose.

Answer: Nasal evaluation Hello and thank you for your question. Any threads or other injected material can be safely removed at the same time as rhinoplasty. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and not just a computer animation system. You should be able to view numerous pictures of actual patients with noses similar to yours performed by your surgeon. If you cannot find enough real before and after pictures, then consider continuing your search for a surgeon. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. FACS Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: Threads and Rhinoplasty Hello and thank you for your question! The answer depends on the type of threads that were placed in your nose. If they are PDO threads, they should dissolve on their own after 6 months have passed since treatment. If an alternative type of thread was used, it can be removed during the rhinoplasty procedure; however, it may be ideal to have them removed as the latter surgeon suggested and to wait the few months. I recommend consulting again with the surgeon you have the surgery scheduled with in November to discuss the type of threads that were used and if they would proceed with the surgery (if they have experience removing threads) or prefer to postpone for optimal results.Best,Kian Karimi, MD, FACS
