Breast augmentation should not transect any ducts, so it should not affect milk production and dispersal. My advice to my patients is to wait until they are no longer lactating to remove implants. At that point, schedule an in-office consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon who performs hundreds of breast procedures each year with a gallery of before and after photos on his/her web site and read patient reviews. If you have already made up your mind to explant, wait until all medications are no longer in the blood stream and you feel you have recovered sufficiently from the explantation.
I would wait until the Anesthesia has left your system, which would be at least a week. The implant selection should be based on a combination of your desired size, soft tissue dynamics, breast base diameter and skin elasticity. I recommend an in-office examination as well as a detailed discussion with a surgeon who you are comfortable with. Finally, make sure your surgeon is a Double-Board Certified Plastic Surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).Best,Dr. DesaiBeverly Hills Institute for Aesthetic Plastic SurgeryHarvard Educated, Beverly Hills & Miami Beach TrainedDouble Board-Certified, Double Fellowship-Trained Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon
Dear LV128,every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
You will want to wait until you are finished taking any medications related to your surgery before planning your pregnancy. The surgery should not interfere with your ability to nurse your baby. Best wishes.
To be safe (for example to make sure all medications used around the time of surgery have been "eliminated"), best to wait about two months before conceiving. Best wishes.
