I am female 42. I have a double chin. I am not fat at all, its just the double chin. I don't want to get into surgeries nor fillers and botox and so on so i though HiFu would help reduce fat in this area and keep my jawline contured which would give a better look. Will it be of use? Does it have any side effects? Will my double chin get worse if i dont repeat the procedure? Please help.
Answer: Treatment options for a double chin High-intensity focused ultrasound or HIFU is used to firm up loose skin. Ultherapy is the only HIFU device approved for this purpose in the U.S. The treatment is not targeted for fat reduction; therefore it is not effective for this concern. If you want to eliminate the submental fat under the chin, your best option is liposuction. Micro-cannulas are inserted into the fat deposits to remove the fat and leave a smoother contour under the chin. It is performed at the same time as the liposuction procedure. I use the tumescent liposuction technique, which uses tumescent fluid to loosen fat cells for easier removal. The gentler treatment can be performed using local anesthesia and sedation if you choose. Recovery is typically just a few days. If you also have skin laxity to address, that can be taken care of using Ultherapy or another skin tightening treatment known as ThermiTight. This device uses radiofrequency energy delivered deeper into the dermal layers, treating more severe skin laxity than Ultherapy.

Answer: Ultherapy is HIFU but not all HIFU is Ultherapy The first thing I would say is if you are considering HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) treatment, make sure it is Ultherapy. Otherversions are either not FDA-approved or too low power to do as much. Secondly Ultherapy/HIFU alone will probably not do enough - consider having some liposuction in the neck as well.

Answer: Neck Sagging/Fat - VASERlipo, FaceTite/AccuTite, Morpheus8/Fractora, Neck Lift/Platysmaplasty; Kybella, Thermage, Ultherapy For a double chin, InMode FaceTite with VASERlipo would give you the best result. With significant neck sagging you would need a facelift / neck lift with muscle tightening (platysmaplasty). At the same time, I would recommend lasers (Fraxel, CO2, or Erbium) and microneedling RF (Fractora, Morpheus8, Intensif) to improve the crepey skin and wrinkles. Overall, the neck can be treated with a combination approach: 1. Microneedling and laser treatments for texture 2. Botox, Dysport, Xeomin or Jeuveau to help platysmal bands 3. Intensif, Fractora, or Morpheus8 microneedling RF for crepey skin and lifting 4. Injectable fillers like Belotero, Restylane Silk, and Juvederm Volbella to improve lines and folds 5. Face/neck lifting if sagging is prominent or premature, with or without platysmaplasty (muscle tightening) 6. Renuvion (J-Plasma), ThermiRF, and InMode FaceTite/AccuTite for internal tightening 7. Ultherapy and Thermage for external tightening 8. Regular Venus Legacy, Exilis Ultra, or InMode Forma treatments with facials to maintain tightness 9. PDO NovaThreads or Silhouette InstaLift cone threads for lifting and long-term collagen production See an expert for a formal evaluation and to develop a personalized treatment plan based on your individual situation and goals. Best, Dr. Emer
