I read here full results from a lift can take up to a year. I just had midface lift & am not sure I'll get the results I want.

Generally speaking, it can take 6 to 12 months to completely heal after a facelift procedure. I would strongly recommend speaking with your surgeon or his/her clinical team to discuss your concerns further.

Final results after a facelift surgery can take up to 6 months for the swelling and smoothness to return but those changes are more subtle.  Scars fade and the color of skin returns to normal and the feeling returns over the 6-12 month period.  For the most part there are no major changes that occur after the first month.  If you had a midface lift you may have some swelling down in the jowl and chin area which should improve over a period of several weeks but it is unlikely that a midface lift alone will improve loose skin in those areas.  Lower facelifts can improve the jowl and submental regions but midface lifts usually restore a fuller more youthful appearance to the cheeks and lower eyelid area.

It takes time to see final results... I generally tell patients to wait for three months to see what things will look like when everything settles in.  Initially you are swollen and may look worse, then as the swelling subsides your look improves.  This is followed by mild changes as the tissue continue to heal, scar tissue contracts and tighten.  The 'tightening' is mild, so if you feel you have loose skin now, that may not improve.

If you're talking about swelling and numbness this may indeed take a full year. However if you are seeing problems that the mid facelift was supposed to fix, it is unlikely these will get better. They might even get worse.

Full healing can take a good 6 months.  This means that you may have some residual swelling, numbness, discoloration for this period.  After a couple of months however you should have a pretty good idea of what you are going to look like.  If you have only a mid-face lift, this is really to lift the cheek fat and help with the upper part of the face and nasolabial folds.  It is not the surgery of choice for jowls, and won't do much if anything for under the chin and neck.  If these were concerns of yours pre-op you should have considered more of a full face and neck lift.  The lower area can be done once you have healed from the mid-face lift.

I think that it takes a good three months to see the final results of facial surgery. It takes that long for everything to "settle in". It takes longer for numbness to go away. i agree that the skin will not get tighter as time goes on.

Two weeks is entirely to soon to measure final results from any surgery. The initial swelling and softening of the tissure will take place the first few months.

Most patients are "social" following a face lift after 3-6 weeks. That's when most of the swelling and bruising are gone and the incisions are strong enough to begin increasing activities. Most patients look their best between 3-6 months when the underlying lumpiness and scars have begun to settle down. Some patients, particularly those with reddish skin or of darker pigmentation may take 12 or more months until their scars are smooth and flat. If no incisions are made, these timelines maybe shorter to increasing activities but not shorter regarding the natural healing process."Mini" indicates smaller. A smaller face lifts mean less surgery, less incisions, less lift, less tightening, etc. You are correct in expecting less but focused results. For example, if you wish your cheeks and eyelids lifted using a "mini" - midface lift, the incision will be along the eyelid or in the mouth but only the eyelid and cheek will lift with no expectation of skin tightening. The "mini" short scar face lift will make "shorter" incision around the ear but not necessarily elevate and redrape the skin to the nasolabial fold, jowl or neck like a fuller traditional face and neck lift.A lift generally requires an incsion (although not all the time) and it is usually the incision that most people consider the site of healing but any tissue that is lifted or moved will require healing time as well. So, it is not so much the length of the incision but the amount of surgery that is performed that will determine how much swelling, bruising, lumpiness and therefore the amount of time before a patient feels social once again. Tightening is a different issue. A (face and neck) lift will elevate and redrape the skin upwardly, trimming off the excess sagging skin and re-attach it to the other side of the incision. During the healing process, the skin will firm up but at the middle to end of the healing process, the fabric of the skin is no different (only shorter) than it was originally. Other options such as: exfolliation, retinoids (vitamin A creams), peels, laser, light and other options will rejuvenate the skin fabric for a firmer, tighter more lustrous and youthful skin.I hope this has helped. The swelling and "rebound"of the skin is onething, the longer term "skin creep" phenomenon is another. Most people look their best at around three months post-op. At two weeksit is surelytoo earlyfor any realistic specific evaluation. Be patient and reevaluate in a couple months.

I always tell patient it takes at least 3 months for "final results" from a facelift. However, most of us are referring to resolution of swelling to be complete.  As you stated, with less swelling the skin may not be as tight which doesn't sounds like what you're looking for.  I would follow up with your plastic surgeon and share your concerns.  I will say, that if you truly only had a "midface lift", then you shouldn't expect too much improvement in the jawline.  That would require a full facelift.  Good luck on the rest of your recovery.
