Two weeks ago I got a mole removed on my face and in order to minimize scarring I had 15 units of Botox injected next to the incision. This week I found out I'm pregnant. Can this harm my baby? Is it more dangerous that the procedure was done so early in the pregnancy? How long will the toxins be in my body? I'm really concern.
Answer: Botox and pregnancy Thank you for your question. I would not worry too much if you had Botox and found out you were pregnant. Botox works locally where it was injected and the dosing is very small. The makers of Botox would never consider sponsoring a study to see the safety of Botox during pregnancy or breast feeding as it would be too risky for them. Likewise, for physicians. I generally provide reassurance for situations like yours and I do recommend that you stop any future injectable treatments until either the baby is born and after breast feeding. I would also let you OB know that you had a Botox treatment during pregnancy so they are aware.

Answer: Botox and pregnancy While no one knows for sure because its never been studied, many patients get Botox before they realize they are pregnant and out of the millions of treatments in the world over many years, I personally have never heard of any adverse outcomes due to this happening.

Answer: Botox and Pregnancy There is a lot of debate around this, but botox has not been studied in pregnant women and therefore doctors cant know the safety. However, many have been treated who ultimately find out they were pregnant at that time -- without any consequence. I assume your baby and yourself will be fine, however, there is no way for sure anyone can know. The botox stays locally and doesnt get absorbed in the system unless the dosese were very high. For cosmetic purposes, I would say you are fine. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Botox at 2 weeks of pregnancy This is extremely unlikely to be a problem. Done correctly, Botox is injected directly into muscles; not into vessels where there is a very remote possibility it could get to the embryo. Relax! Many patients find out they are pregnant within a few months of a Botox injection. I have been injecting Botox into patients for almost 23 years, and I have never once heard or read of an adverse side effect to a baby as a consequence!Debbie Kessler Hudak, MD

Answer: Had Botox, found out I'm pregnant I would not worry. This literally happens ALL the time. It happened to two of my medical assistants in my office and they both have beautiful, healthy babies. Because we are capable of finding out much sooner now that people are pregnant, my assumption is that over the years, thousands of people probably got Botox and didn't know they were pregnant. I would not panic or worry. Enjoy your pregnancy and don't fret. "This answer has been solicited without seeing this patient and cannot be held as true medical advice, but only opinion.
