Right arm pain after surgery. Should I be alarmed?

It's been a week tomorrow since I had implants and capsule removed. Today I have had a radiating type pain under my arm pit that is now radiating down my right arm. On the top of the arm. Should I be alarmed?

Dear 01Mandy,if this type of pain occurs after surgery, the most likely reason is stretching of nerves. It can happen if your arm was hold in one position for a longer period of time during the surgery. It can last for a few weeks until it resolves. The pain you are experiencing is likely nerve pain.  If the pain is severe or worsening you should contact your physician.  If it is more minor you can use ice and rest the area.

Thank you for your question.  Often this sensation is related to a nerve bundle located in the same spot as the pain that gets irritated with the surgery and often presents on your dominant side.  Ice and massage usually helps.  However, if you are experiencing other symptoms, or this gets progressively worse, always check in directly with your surgeon to be assessed.
