I had a septoplasty and this is my 10th day post op. I have had some crusting buildup inside my nose lately. Can I use a Cotton Bud to remove them by my self? What I was thinking was to dip them in h2o2 and apply it in the crustings. Is this advisable?

Thanks for your question. This is a pretty common issue after nasal surgery. I advise all my patients to make a solution of dilute hydrogen peroxide and use it to remove any crusts from their nasal cavities starting the evening of their surgeries. You can absolutely do it now, given that you're ten days out. It may hurt a bit but you shouldn't be able to affect anything important. Use plenty of saline spray too. Good luck!

Thank you for your question.  I recommend reaching out to your surgeon to confirm, but in general, it is helpful to gently use cotton-tipped applicators dipped in hydrogen peroxide to remove crusting in the nostrils after septoplasty.  Keeping the nose moist with nasal saline spray as well as Ayr saline gel or Aquaphor is also very helpful during the healing period.  Hope that helps, good luck!
