Dear BM25, A consultation and intra nasal examination would be needed to determine your candidacy for a septoplasty surgery. Once an examination is performed and if the diagnosis is deviated septum then there is a possibility that your insurance will cover the functional aspect of the procedure. This sounds like a good question for your surgeon. It is very unlikely that what you produced from your nose is cartilage. I have never seen that in 10+ years doing septoplasty. It's not unusual to get hard scabs from the turbinate reduction. Maybe that is what you saw?
