Please see the photos attached. Can veneers do the trick? The orthodontist I saw said I'm a candidate for braces and surgery but I never heard any other options. I'd like to get more opinions. Thank you!
Answer: #Veneers for underbite #DrSoftTouch Hello there,An experienced cosmetic dentist should be able to easily correct a minor underbite with porcelain veneers. The usual rule-of-thumb is that if your underbite is minimal, it can be closed. If your underbite is major, then it can only be reduced. The best thing to do is to get a veneer consult at an excellent cosmetic dental office. The best indicator to determine if the dentist is going to give you the results that he/she claims, is by viewing before and after photos of his/her patients that have undergone similar or the same procedures. Good luck and I hope this info helps you. Follow me if you have more questions.Sarah Thompson, DMDSt. Louis, MO Area (O'Fallon, IL)RealSelf100

Answer: Alternatives to surgery. Consider DNA Appliance and a Neuromuscular Orthotic. It appears that you have a severely underdeveloped maxilla but also forward posturing of your lower jaw. When you don't have a solid bite it appears you compensate by posturing forward. I would expand with a DNA appliance worn 12-14 hours/day and find a healthy bite position with a diagnostic neuromuscular orthotic when the DNA appliance is out.You can consider prosthetics ways of finishing the case if necessary but I woulfd consider these two treatments as a prelude to any others. Veneers are possible but not a first choice to start treatment with them.Ira L Shapira DDS, D,ABDSM, D,AAPM, FICCMOChair, Alliance of TMD OrganizationsDiplomat, American Academy of Pain ManagementDiplomat, American Board of Dental Sleep MedicineRegent & Fellow, International College of CranioMandibular OrthopedicsBoard Eligible, American Academy of CranioFacial PainDental Section Editor, Sleep & Health JournalMember, American Equilibration SocietyMember, Academy of Applied Myofunctional Sciences

Answer: Your are not a candidate for veneers Definetly porcelain veneers are not the best option for your case. An orthognatic surgery is your best option.Several methods exist for correcting an underbite, from jaw surgery to a range of orthodontic appliances. If steps are taken while the patient is young, the right appliance is often just the thing to resolve the problem.

Answer: Veneers for underbite I have done a case like your with veneers and the patient was very happy. It is not the ideal treatment. Braces and surgery are the more ideal treatment. One thing to think about is that restorations do require replacement. Braces and surgery is a one time treatment. You may do 2-3 sets of veneers during the course of your life. I encourage you to weigh both options.
