I had braces as a teen and my teeth were always on "watch" because of my short roots. Now that I'm older I want to get braces but doctors have recommended NOT to on a chance they will fall out. Would I be able to substitute with veneers?
Answer: Short roots and #veneers #DrSoftTouch Hello there,Veneers will not have any effect on the your roots, so they may be a great option for you. Your short roots are not a problem unless you have significant mobility. Consult a cosmetic dentist to determine your options, and always look at before and after photos when selecting your dentist. They will give you a good idea about what you can expect. Good luck and I hope this helps. Follow me if you have more questions.Sarah Thompson, DMDSt. Louis, MO area (O'Fallon, IL)Real Self 100

Answer: Porcelain veneers can often be done instead of orthodontics Porcelain veneers are almost always an option, the only variation is how much enamel must be removed. The straighter they are then the more conservative the veneer preparations can be. Without xrays or photos I am only guessing, but odds are that veneers are a great option for you.

Answer: Veneers will not change your occclusion Since veneers are bonded to the front surface of your teeth, they do not function like crown restorations do. Without x-rays and photos or an examination, I can't give a definite answer. If your teeth are significantly mobile, talk to your dentist about splinting them together with a wire retainer bonded to the inside of each tooth to strengthen them. If you do this, you will need to be diligent with your hygiene using floss threaders and floss. If you are not dedicated to your dental hygiene, you will lose more bone support from the periodontal disease that would certainly develop. If you can not undergo orthodontic therapy safely again, veneers may afford you a great opportunity to improve the appearance of your smile.Douuglas Jopling, DDSDallas, TX area

Answer: Short roots and veneers IIt sounds as if your teeth have shifted from the final position when your braces were removed. Veneers may be a very viable option if returning to ortho isn't. Without a picture it's difficult to be specific.
