Shape of areolas changed after breast lift/augmentation. Will they return to normal?

After my breast lift/augmentation my areolas are huge! They are flat and much lighter in colour as well. I hate them. They were adorable and responsive prior to surgery and were a nice mid brown colour and had texture. Now they look like giant pink pancakes. They are no longer cute and are unresponsive to cold, touch etc. 3 weeks post op. Will they ever be nipples and areolas I can love again or will I forever be self-conscious and have to keep them in hiding? I feel less feminine now :(

Thanks for your question. I am so sorry you feel this way. The final result of a breast augmentation is normally apparent about 3 months post-op. Give your breasts some more time to heal. If over time you are still unhappy, speak to your PS about your concerns. All the best,Dr. JSB

You are still very close to your operation day and many changes in your breast can still be expected. It is impossible to answer this question without having been at the surgery. You should discuss this with your plastic surgeon.

Hello Baby58. A breast lift will change your areolas and right now they may not be as responsive and even numb. As the tissues heal this should get better. The details and rationale for creating a particular areola shape and size are known only to you and your PS. At 3 weeks since surgery, it is common to feel like this and be self-conscious about the appearance. This should also get better. Loss of sensation and responsiveness in the areolas is a risks of the surgery, but the vast majority of patients recover function. Discuss your concerns with your PS and see what he recommends.
