Can Botox help with nostril flare?

Question

I notice that my nostrils flare a lot when I talk and seem to be simulating a breathing pattern? I have a deviated septum and have seldom been able to breath out of my nose, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I tried to talk to my dermatologist about it, but she said there was nothing that can be done as the muscles in my nostrils are too small and I could paralyze parts of my nose I don't want paralyzed with botox. Is there any other cosmetic procedure that can help with this?

Thank you for your question!I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist to go over your desired results. Facial fillers like Voluma, Restylane, and Juvederm along with Botox can be used to improve the symmetry of the nose and lift the tip; however, it won't make the nose appear smaller. Surgery would be needed to improve the nostrils or overall shape. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Botox can sometimes help with this if you are a good candidate.  This is a sensitive area and if injected incorrectly it could impact your smile.  I encourage you to visit with a board certified plastic surgeon regarding your concerns.  I also recommend speaking with an ENT about your deviated septum.

Hello Sunny:Yes, a tiny dose of one of the botulinum products, especially Jeuveau or Botox, can be injected in the nasal alar muscles to reduce the flaring of the nostrils.
