Is it true that Vanquish only diminishes the size of fat cells while CoolSculpting kills them?

I am deciding between Vanquish and CoolSculpting. I purchased Vanquish but when I got to Doctor's office she said that Vanquish doesn't actually kill the fat cells, so results are less long term than with CoolSculpting. The CoolSculpting is more expensive (given the number of applications) so I wanted to know if this is true.

Thank you for your question.  It is not true that Vanquish only diminishes the size of fat cells while CoolSculpting kills them.  We have both devices in our office.  We use Vanquish which uses the heat of radio frequency to destroy fat cells in a generalized way, followed by CoolSculpting to spot treat areas such as the abdomen by freezing the fat.  Once the fat cells are destroyed, they are gone for good. This "Fire  & Ice" treatment approach offers the best results we've seen thus far in non-surgical fat reduction area. I hope this helps.

Vanquish kills fat cells, just as CoolSculpting does. The difference is that Vanquish uses heat in the form of radiofrequency (RF) energy to disrupt and destroy the cells, while CoolSculpting uses cooling. Both methods are extremely effective at permanently eliminating stubborn pockets of fat over a series of treatments. You may also want to consider ThermiTight. Please consult a board-certified dermatologist who can determine if you are a candidate for contouring your body with these new methods.

Vanquish does destroy fat cells, but it uses heat to do so, whereas Coolsculpting uses controlled cooling. In our office we do a "Fire and Ice" combination of Vanquish and Coolsculpting to get the best results with fat removal. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Both Vanquish (and the newer version Vanquish ME) and Coolsculpting through a process called apoptosis. The same as with liposuction, these machines get rid of the fat cells forever. You must maintain your weight or combine it with diet and exercise to maintain and improve your results. Vanquish is often used for larger areas of fat and more for debulking. In my office we use Exilis Ultra to spot treat areas.

Thank you for your excellent question. Vanquish Me in fact kills the fat cells. Further, Vanquish Me will kill 10 times the number of fat cells as CoolSculpting at about half the price. Vanquish Me works by selectively heating the temperature of the fat cells to 43-45 degrees celsius. This programs cellular death as long as the temperature is maintained at this level for beyond 5 minutes. In addition, there is some skin retraction with Vanquish Me that you do not get with CoolSculpting. Studies have shown Vanquish Me destroys 30-35% of the fat cells over a much larger area while CoolSculpting destroys 22-25% of the fat cells in a very focused area.I hope this was helpful - Dr. Moore.
