Dear soldavalos, most plastic surgeons would recommend you to wait 6 months before having a mammography. But every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am. Society of Plastic Surgery
This is a very important question. Ideally, you should wait at least 6 months after your augmentation surgery to undergo a mammogram. The mammogram procedure can be painful early after surgery, because the procedure requires compression of your breast tissue and implant. If your doctor is requesting a second mammogram, consider a ultra-sound of your breast or a MRI.
Optimally, you should wait 3-6 months after getting a breast augmentation to get a mammogram, to prevent some of the pain and tenderness you might feel with pressure and manipulation on a postoperative area. Additionally, there may be some inflammation from the surgery, which may affect the mammogram results. However, if you need evaluation on a more urgent basis, because of the prior mammogram, you should meet with your plastic surgeon and discuss either getting a mammogram or some other study, like ultrasound or MRI.
Good afternoon and thank you for your inquiry, my recommendation is to wait between 3-6months after surgery, however, if your doctor needs to perform more studies to evaluate your breast tissue, maybe he can choose a different study instead, but you should definetly discuss this further with him/her.
If it is emergent then do it, if it can wait I would wait about 2-3 months. They are not so gentle when they do them as you well know and so you may have some pain if you do it too soon plus the capsule is forming those first 3 months and you don't want anyone manipulating and squeezing them into a mammogram machine. If it is that important to get your imaging you can always just get an MRI.
Thank you for your question. As you can see, every board certified plastic surgeon has a different answer to this question. I recommend 12 months after breast surgery before having a mammogram.
Great question. I have my patients wait 6 months after having breast surgery to get a mammogram. You should definitely double check with your surgeon before your test.
Mammogram will require compressing the breasts in order to get an image which is not advisable straight after having a breast augmentation surgery . It usually will require a good 6 months after your operation. But it is also important to let your doctor knows that you had a recent operation so they can use a different modality like MRI scan or even an US and not to ignore his request.
You should not get a mammogram until the healing process has nearly completed. This allows the tissue to soften to a point it can be compressed to get the best image. This usually takes at least 6 to 12 months. If attempted earlier, it may be impossible to compress the tissue adequately to get a good image and, of course, it might be even more uncomfortable than usual. Your doctor could consider other imaging options but there will be some things associated with the breast augmentation that could confuse them as well.
probably 3 months unless there an urgent need to do the mammogram sooner. the application of pressure or displacement can be modified to minimize trauma to the the healing space around the implant if there is suspicion of a tumor.
Travel is possible after Breast Augmentation surgery and most certainly you will need to take precautions. I discourage any aerobic exercise for 3 weeks after surgery and limited lifting. As for the incisions, it is best to not expose them to swimming pool water, oceans, rivers, or hot tubs f...
Hello and thank you for the question. This could be from a combination of factors, including anesthesia (during induction, mask ventilation/intubation, and effect of some anesthetic drugs), narcotic pain medication and body's stress response to surgery among others. All of these can cause a...
The simple answer is yes. Because elctrocautery is used to control bleeding during the operation, anything that is metal will also conduct elctricity and therefore you run the risk that it may burn you. Good luckDr. PG
Hello,Thank you for your question. Constipation post op is not unusual but temporary- typically lasting 2-5 days. I recommend that you continue to follow up with your primary care physician for assessment. All the best
Healthy patients, with good asthma control and medical clearance, can undergo breast augmentation safely. This risk would have to be weighed against the benefits of the surgery. Discuss your concerns with your surgeon.See the link below for more information. A detailed examination will help de...
Best to touch base with your surgeon as he or she knows best what is needed for you at this time. Reasons for post op bra wearing varies from surgeon to surgeon. In general, I have my patients wearing this type of bra for one week in order to reestablish the breast fold or crease under the...
