Facial swelling after rhinoplasty post op 1 month. How long will this take to resolve?

I am one month post op for rhinoplasty but my face is still swollen especially near my cheeks and smile. My face overall looks chubbier since surgery and I know I haven't gained weight. How long will this take to resolve? I just want to look like myself again

It is unusual to have significant
facial swelling more than 1 week after rhinoplasty, but nevertheless, I am
certain that with time it will resolve assuming there are no other problems
going on. I would continue to follow up with your surgeon, and be patient. Best

Facial swelling after rhinoplasty is very
common. This swelling may lead to changes in smile and eye’s shape. The
swelling should subside about two months post op. You may want to reduce your salt
intake and also consult with your surgeon for specific treatments that can be
recommended.

The face can still appear swollen in the cheeks and smile lines after rhinoplasty particularly if the nostrils were narrowed (alarplasty). Your smile may also feel impaired due to the swelling present. This should resolve over the next 2 months. There are some techniques to speed up the recovery including sleeping with your head elevated, decreasing salt intake as Dr. Brennan has suggested, taking natural supplements like Bromelain and turmeric, and seeking out a lymphatic massage specialist for manual lymphatic drainage (MLD). The last resort would be a short course of steroids. I would check with your surgeon before starting any of these recommendations as each surgeon has their specific preferences.

Facial swelling should not be present 1 month following rhinoplasty. If you had reduction in your nasal size over all it may be that you are now observing your more pronounced facial width when compared to before your nasal surgery. If you provide your before and after photos, it would help provide more accurate feedback.

Dear Jessyjess1, I would suggest speaking with your surgeon regarding your concerns.  Discuss with  your surgeon about various resolutions to reduce swelling. These would include sleeping elevated, reducing salt intake, reduce heat or sun exposure, limit exercise and any other multiple facets of reducing swelling your surgeon prescribes. Swelling can occur up to 1 year post-op. I recommend consulting with your physician about options to keep swelling at a minimum. You can also watch your salt intake, as salt will increase any swelling. Patience is key.good luck!
