Question

Just had a rhinoplasty. Was supposed to just have bump reduced and some tip work, very conservative. Woke up with a graft, a cut muscle, and a much lower upper lip. I used to have a nice smile and now my upper teeth don't show. I was never told about any of this and never asked for it and my doctor seemed to think that my droopy upper lip looks more "feminine". Will this improve with time? Its been just over 3 weeks. I don't want to have to get a lip lift.

Thank you for your question.  I would discuss your concerns with your surgeon, as he/she knows exactly what was performed in your operation.  That being said, I am hopeful that your upper lip droop is secondary to swelling and will resolve with time.  It takes several weeks for the majority of swelling to resolve, and can take up to one year for all swelling to resolve.  I hope that this helps!-David Gilpin

Hello and thank you for your question. It is very normal to be swollen at the 3 week postoperative period.   I advise patients that the final result of rhinoplasty takes 12 months.  I recommend giving it more time.  Your smile and upper lip position should return to normal.  I recommend that you return to see your surgeon, as he/she will have a good idea of what to expect in regards to your specific progress, since they can evaluate you in relation to your preoperative appearance.Best wishes and good luck

One pre and post photo does not give a lot of information. Your lip issue may be related to swelling. You need to give it time to heal.
