I'm 4 weeks post op- sub muscular silicone. My PS said massage wasn't necessary, but it seems like it's recommended. My breasts feel pretty hard and I'd like them to soften. Is it too late?
Answer: Massage post-breast augmentation Dear fit mom, If you have round implants, it is certainly not too late to begin massage. If you have shaped or anatomic implants, then massage may be less advisable. In my 20+ years of experience, I have found massage to be very helpful and recommend it to the majority of my patients for optimal healing. Best wishes for a successful outcome.

Answer: Massage Anxiety I have advised massage for most of my practice years, and advised no massage for several years, and I am not sure if I saw a difference in practice outcomes! I am unaware of a good evidence based study, but anecdotal experience suggests that massage can help keep round, smooth implants soft. Note that shaped, textured implants should not be massaged to avoid rotation. Ask your PS to explain their rationale, so you are not worrying, but perhaps no one knows the right course, and more than one way works.

Answer: Massage? If your plastic surgeon does not want you to massage the breasts there is probably a reason for that. That being said please revist with your surgeon to make sure you are healing properly. Early on the implants can feel firm until the tissue settles and accommodates to the implants.
