3 days post Restylane to tear troughs today. Is it normal when touching the area to feel the Restylane under skin?

Question

The injected sites under the eyes feel like firms pads when I slightly feel the area (same firmness as a mosquito bite, minus the itching). Just curious if it will soften with time or will it always remain firm under the skin? I am Asian and my cosmetic surgeon said she preferred using the needle/syringe technique versus the blunt cannula because Asians generally have thick skin and she can get deeper? Does this sound right? Any answers are appreciated!

Hi @Meikameo. I would recommend waiting two weeks for swelling and bruising to subside. If you are still unhappy with the results after two weeks, you can dissolve the filler with Hyaluronidase. Best of luck, Dr. Nima!

This may be swelling, which is typical after tear trough injections. I would wait a full 2 weeks before judging the results, but this may be superficially placed filler. If it is after the two week wait, you can have the filler reversed with hyaluronidase.

Thank you for sharing your question.  It is not unusual to have bumps in the lower eyelid for a week following injection of Restylane. It will smooth out over the next week. Make sure to have doctors experienced in the eyelid region perform this potentially complicated procedure.Good luck,

However, at just 3 days after a service, this could still be swelling.  I tell people that if you can feel it but can’t see it, don’t worry about it.  However, you are too early from the service to be complacent. The concern is that if you can feel the product, as the swelling dissipates, you may begin to see lumps and bumps. Tha cannula is not better than the needle in this regard.  However, these are fussy services.  See how you do over the next week and consider reposting here.

This may be swelling, which can last 1-2 weeks after your injections. I would wait a full 2 weeks before assessing your results. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Swelling post-injection is normal and may feel firm to the touch for up to 10 days. If after two weeks you are not happy with the results, the effects can be reversed with hyaluronidase. I personally use fillers specifically made for the under eye hollows such as Redensity, as it provides a natural feel and result for this delicate area. I use a cannula for this treatment (even on my asian clients) as it is safer, and with proper technique reaches the same depths as a needle.

It is not at all unusual to feel the material and some swelling at this point. there is really no difference in using the needle vs cannula as it is just a matter of what the doctor is used to
