I want to have juviserm have a appt. but I also am having alot of dental work scheduled for later that month. Will the dental work affect the injections or should I wait till all my dental work is done to proceed

It will be in your best interest to have the dental work done first and then the Juvederm injections to follow. Juvederm and other filler products can mold when pressure is applied to injected area. If you have the injection afterward you will not be risking any unwanted changes to the product.

It's best to wait. The dentist, just in opening your mouth can manipulate the areas where injectable fillers can be placed. So your results might be ideal. There are also issues of infection which can be seeded during dental work. Wait a week or so after the dental work to get the fillers.

There are some rare instances of infections following dental infections or procedures in the area that fillers were placed.  I is known that there is some bacteria that flows through the blood stream during these procedures and sometimes they can get stuck in the area of filler and lead to infection.  Freshly placed filler will be more inflamed and have more blood supply than something that has been there for awhile.  I would wait and tell all my patients the same.

There are 2 reasons you should have the dental work done first. The filler can shift if significantly massaged or manipulated during the dental work. This is more common if the injections are done in or around the lips but can happen even if injected more distantly. Secondly, the mouth contains significant bacteria which can be manipulated into the blood stream by the dental work. If the filler is done first, the bacteria can lodge in the injected area and cause an infection. Although this should be extremely rare, why take the chance.
