A few days ago I developed a red, painful bump/cyst on my right butt cheek. It's very soft and feels like a deep, hollow hole beneath the skin in the center of the bump. The "hole" feels like it is slightly wider now. No fever, just red and sore. Is this fat necrosis or infection? Or am I just overreacting? Is it possible to still develop complications at 6 weeks post-op?
Answer: Bump , fat necrosis vrs infection? it's hard to tell based on pictures alone if this would be fat necrosis versus and infection. It would be best if you follow up with your surgeon and that person places a needle in the area and see what comes out. This can be done very easily under local anesthesia in an office visit. If pus comes out then it's infection if it's clear fluid and it's possibly fat necrosis or a cyst that has developed. In either way it's best to follow up with your surgeon and if you do not like the answers he gives have a second opinion by a plastic surgeon who is board certified by the American Board of plastic surgery and has experience in this procedure. best of luckDr. Michael Gartner

Answer: Recovery from surgery Thank you for your question. It is hard to determine what is going, it does not look like fat necrosis. It may be an irritated pimple or cyst. I would recommend having someone evaluate it in person.

Answer: Could fat necrosis or infection It definitely could be fat necrosis or a localized infection given that it's new onset inflammation. It'd reasonable to follow up with your surgeon to allow him or her to examine it thoroughly.Hope this helps! Sam Jejurikar, MD
