It's never a good idea to have elective surgery with an active infection as this can increase your complication rate.
If there is truly an infection, then you should receive treatment; and you may have to delay your surgery. However, finding out you have the UTI before surgery is much better than not knowing and subjecting yourself to a higher rate of infection for the BBL.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Hello dear!!Thanks for the question. Certainly, if you have an UTI the best thing is to postpone the surgery, but it will depend on the treatment you get and how soon is your surgery is.Get in touch with your plastic surgeon as soon as possible to start the treatment and know his/her recommendations.Good luck :)

I have patients take antibiotics (usually Keflex unless they have an allergy) for 24 hours after BBL (and almost all surgeries). There is no good evidence that antibiotics have any benefit beyond 24 hours after this type of surgery.
Only the plastic surgeon who performs your BBL can answer that question as he/she will know of any complications in wound healing. The first 3 to 4 days tend to be the worst for most BBL patients. Many of my patients feel well enough to return to work at 1 week, but some patients may need 2 ...
