I have a very round and wide appearance. thinking of buccal fat removal. but dont know if it would make me look older and gaunt looking...

If the fullness is more in the lower anterior cheeks, it may be buccal fat. If it is more in the lower posteriror cheeks, it may be overdeveloped masseter muscles. Or it can be both at the same time. And both conditions can be treated with related procedures. Upon seeing your pictures you are a candidate for the buccal fat pad removal, the procedure will make your mid cheeks area slimmer and highlight your cheekbones. In my experience it's very difficult for a patient with a round/square face to have a gaunt result because the fat removed isn't enough to dramatically change your features. You could start with buccal fat removal and see how you feel after. It would not leave you looking older or gaunt, but would reduce some of the fullness in your cheeks and jowls. You could also try masseter botox as well. This may take a few treatments to get the appearance you are looking for , but the results can be huge.

If I were treating you, I would start with masseter botox and see how you like the results as this alone can make an impactful change. If you were interested in further slimming, the buccal fat removal would be an additional procedure to help with this. In other words, start with a temporary and less invasive procedure first and move forward with another procedure based on your goals.
