Have to do a hysterectomy and hernia repair, can I get a tummy tuck at the same time?

Question

So I have multiple fibroids. I was told I have to do a hysterectomy and have my hernia repair. I have 4 kids. one of my pregnancy was with twins. So am pretty much stretch out with strech marks. Since am getting cut open. I think it would be the best time to get it done. I do not want to be cut twice. Is there a doctor out there that can perform this procedure. Or would I need a GYN and a plastic surgeon to do both procedures. I would love to hear from someone. Thanks T

My 2 cents: I have seen too many obstetricians attempting to do the tummy tuck portion so that they can make extra money at the same time as their portion.  However, do not be fooled by this, they are not trained to do a tummy tuck so leave that in the hands of a board-certified plastic surgeon only.Best of luck!

Hello and thank you for your question.  The best advice you can
receive is from an in-person consultation.  It is certainly possible to have these procedures combined together in the same setting.  You will have to find a OBGYN and plastic surgeon who can work together.   If you are an appropriate candidate for a tummy tuck, this can be done through a low and short incision, all
completely below the bikini line.  The
belly button can be designed to look natural and have no scars on the
exterior.   Your muscles can also be
plicated resulting in a flat abdomen. 
Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of
real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate
their results.  The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are
comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified
board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

Hello and thank you for your question. In general the answer to your question is yes. You are able to combine procedures such as hysterectomy and abdominoplasty. The surgeons can definitely work together on this. You should keep in mind that a tummy tuck is a cosmetic procedure, and as such, is typically not covered by insurance. Thank you for your inquiry. Often times the two procedures can be done at the same time. The ob/gyn will do the hysterectomy and the plastic surgeon can do the hernia repair and tummy tuck. The short answer is absolutely. This would depend on your pre-operative evaluation and appropriateness for a tummy tuck in general. These operations are frequently combined. I have done this a number of times, but the patient had a gynecologist at my hospital and we agreed to work together. Also, the patient knew that if the hysterectomy part became complicated, then the cosmetic part might have to be delayed. This never happened and all of the patients were quite happy as they got both surgeries with one operation.
