Very good question. Hydration is helpful for the healing process after any cosmetic treatment, including lip fillers. Other steps you can take include icing the area periodically for the first day or two and sleeping with your head elevated. I would also avoid anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen and aspirin, since they can exacerbate both bruising and swelling. Talk to your injector for further instructions on how you can manage side effects after lip fillers.
Thank you for your question! While drinking water and staying hydrating is always beneficial, there are some practices that can dramatically improve recovery and ultimate results following lip filler injections. Many recommendations revolve around reducing bruising and swelling. It is important to discontinue the use of anti-inflammatory drugs, including Ibuprofen and Aspirin. It may also be helpful to discontinue drinking alcohol for 1-2 weeks before your appointment. Arnica may also be beneficial. Following treatment, you should refrain from any exertional activity or makeup application for the first 24 hours. I also recommend that my patients sleep with their head elevated to minimize swelling. Consult with a board certified plastic surgeon experienced in facial rejuvenation to discuss best practices prior to your treatment. Best of luck!
Hi and thank you very much for your question. Juvederm is a hydrophilic product which means it absorbs water. Drinking water will likely not help much in regard to swelling after lip filler. However, you should ice the first day or two and it does help bring down some swelling. You will want to avoid strenuous activity the day prior to and after injections to minimize swelling. I hope this helped! Dr. Aydin
Hi, thanks for your question. Drinking water probably won't help much for the swelling after lip fillers, though you should always stay hydrated. That said you could try ice. It is normal to have some swelling and bruising, and sometimes mild bleeding at the injection site immediately after treatment. You just need to give it time to subside. Typically swelling should subside quite soon following your treatment but it can take about a week for your lips to settle. If you have any concerns about your lip filler treatment do not hesitate to return to your provider and discuss any questions that you might have.
Thank you for your question, There can be some swelling and/or lumps after lip injections which can last 1 to 2 weeks. You can apply firm pressure between two fingers on the lips for a few days, for 5 minutes at a time, in order to help decrease swelling and even out the lumps. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have the filler dissolved with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Best, Dr. Emer
Thank you for your question.Drinking water will not help with swelling after lip injections. The lips are sensitive and everyone reacts differently to the injections. Ice and cold compresses will help with swelling after the injections, but in most cases it just takes some time for the swelling to subside.
Hello and thank you for your question. Juvederm is hydrophilic and does absorb water, as you are implying in your question. Though drinking water, and maintaining overall hydration is a key component in overall health, it will not make a significant impact in your lip swelling post-injection. Lip swelling is an intrinsic property of the interaction of tissues with fillers. It is not affected by drinking water. Please contact a qualified provider or a board-certified physician with extensive experience in these procedures.
Thank you for your question.Adequate water intake will allow for optimal healing after any cosmetic injection or procedure. It is also recommended you ice the lips for 24 hours after an injection and limit your strenuous activity the first 24 hours as well to allow for healing.Swelling of the lips begin to decrease after 72 hours but can be present for up to 4 weeks since that is typically how long it takes for lips to completely heal.
Hello there, In my experience, hydration does play a part in the swelling. I also would recommend limiting activity as well as contact with the tissue. I also would recommend anti-inflammatory meds as well as anti-histamines. Ice can be used conservatively (excessive use increases swelling). You also will want to sleep elevated. Within 2-3 days most of the swelling should have resolved. Hope this helps. Sarah RN BSN
If you have what sounds like a herpes breakout I would wait until it fully heals before doing any lip injections. Please contact a qualified provider or a board-certified physician with extensive experience in these procedures.
Some people respond better to one or the other but ultimately they are both in the same category. I would try whichever one your doctor recommends and try the other one the second time around and see which one you prefer. Overall any hyaluronic acid should give you your desired result if...
