I was just wondering if this was common and ways I can get rid of it?

Hello.  By the appearance of your photograph, you may very well be a good candidate for isolated liposuction of your neck.  I have been using an ultrasonic assisted liposuction tool called VASER for years with nice results.  There are many ways to remove this fat via liposuction surgery.  It can typically be performed under local (tumescent) anesthesia, right in the surgeon's office.  The procedure is typically safe and complications are rare. Post-operative swelling and bruising are typical but may not be severe.  You will be required to wear a compression garment on your neck for at least one week and possibly longer.  Liposuction of the neck is a common procedure and will likely satisy your expectations in the right surgeon's hands.

I treat this everyday in my practice. You may be a surgical candidate but you do not need surgery for improvement. Properly performed liposuction with energy based devices and physical fat removal will do fantastic to remove the fat, lift the skin, and contour the jawline. I pretreat everyone with Botox 1-2 weeks before surgery to relax the neck muscles, allowing for better retraction of the skin after surgery. Then after treatment we do skin tightening with Venus Legacy to improve the results and decrease the neck swelling. I suggest you only see an expert for treatment of this area as a meticulous surgeon is required to get great results and complications in this area can be devastating both medically and cosmetically. A new medication that is used to remove chin fat with injections called Kybella may also be an option, as it secondarily allows for skin tightening/lifting as well. Yes you can get that localized area of fat removed via liposuction. It would be a short procedure and recovery should be short. expect swelling and bruising post operative.

yes, it looks like liposuction would work well.  There is also a device called Thermi RF which could add to the effectiveness of the liposuction.  Either way I think you will see a noticeable difference with one treatment !
