Why has my smile completely changed after botox? (photos)

The Botox affecting your smile could be the Botox injected for the lip flip or the masseters. I suggest you see your injector. The lip flip Botox is not likely to go all the way to 4 months, but you can get a better idea of when this will resolve after you see your injector. I am not sure why you're asking "why"? Did you not know how Botox relaxes muscles before you had it injected?

There are many muscles around the mouth, jaw and cheeks that control smiling. The most common cause of smile asymmetry after Botox is that one of these muscles was inadvertently injected, or the Botox diffused. The good news is it should be temporary and wear off after 2-4 months. Good luck!

This may be due to Botox placement. It can take 3-4 months for Botox results to resolve, but it will resolve gradually over the next several weeks. Hope this helps.

There are numerous muscles located around the jaw, cheeks and mouth that contribute to the action of smiling. There is potential that the Botox may have dispersed or been inadvertently injected into a surrounding muscle leading to an undesirable result. Botox gradually wears off after 3-4 months so the effects will not be permanent on your smile, and if only a small quantity reached the incorrect target muscle then potentially even sooner! Discuss your concerns with your injector at your 2 week review!

Hello,Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Depending on what area the botox has been injected, it can trigger certain muscles to relax. These muscles will play a role in your overall smile. Botox can last anywhere up to 3-4 months. However, if you are regularly exercising it can be less.

Botox works in the muscle it is injected into. Depending on the dilution and techniques, there is some spread of the botox after injection and it may effect unintended surrounding musculature. The good news with botox is that its effects are not permanent, but can last for up to 4 months depending upon the dosage used. Would certainly be worth discussing with your injector. Good luck!

Thank you for your question and photos.I am sorry your haven't received the results you were hoping to achieve.  Botox injections around the mouth can be tricky and without details of how much and where the Botox was injected I can't offer much in the way of why the smile has completely changed.  The good news is that any Botox effect should be completely gone in 3-4 months and will get softer over the next few weeks.Best Dr. L

The amount and location of the Botox injected should be expected to change the shape of your smile and this will wear off over a period of 3 months or so

What did you expect when you had your lip and the muscles that are so close to your mouth injected with such a large amount of Botox. This can only result in some changes of the smile. At least your smile is not terrible and not crooked. This will wear off after approximately 3 to 4 months. Next time you may want to pace yourself better and not have all of the Botox injected at once. Good luck from New York City

Hi!
Botox in lower lip can certainly make you smile differently. The effect is short lasting , you should get used to your new but different smile. Are you able to chew and swallow properly? Are you have problems speaking or change in voice, or drooling. I like to be a bit conservative with Botox and add slowly after seeing patients response in lower face.
